Environmental Commitment

All of us at Woodbury’s have a fervent commitment to the environment and our precious natural resources. We make every attempt to employ sound, safe and conscientious practices in all aspects of our manufacturing. Many years ago we changed our manufacturing techniques from turning a large solid block of wood into single bowl, into laminated or segmented bowls. This made a significant improvement in our conservation and environmental stewardship. While we loved turning the beautiful, large solid bowls; deriving a single bowl from a large block of wood was just not prudent and consistent with our philosophy. Not only was it a waste of wood resources, the energy consumed in the kiln drying of those large blocks of hardwood was inefficient. The manufacturing techniques that we have adopted as an alternative to our old process, now allows us to make many different sizes and designs, basically unlimited in scope, with very little waste of resources. The wood that does not remain in the bowl itself is either given to a local dairy farmer in the form of sawdust for animal bedding or given as kindling wood to families that heat with wood.
